Do you take insurance?

We do not take insurance.  This comes with the advantage of not having to file a mental health diagnosis for you that remains on your medical record indefinitely.  It also helps us avoid restrictions on when, how and how often you can be seen.  That's a decision that we can make together.  However, if our clients choose to file with their insurance, we can easily provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed statement for insurance reimbursement.  Depending on your plan, your insurance company may reimburse you directly.  If you want to find out in advance, contact your insurance provider and ask about the process of reimbursing for out of network providers.

How much say do I have in the process?

Dr. Lane is a trained and licensed psychologist with over 18 years of experience with clients, but despite that, we consider you the expert on your own life.  We share our professional impressions and suggestions for where therapy may go, but it's always in collaboration with you.  We make the plan with you because if you're not on board with the plan, we aren't going to see the change we're after!  Your feedback and investment are absolutely crucial.

Why work with Dr. Lane?

He's well-trained and experienced, with many years of positive feedback.  Clients feel understood and never judged--no matter the issue.  Promise.  Clients feel supported yet challenged to take new risks in trying out a different way of looking at issues or acting toward others.  You will almost certainly feel relief as a result of your investment in working with Dr. Lane.

What's therapy like?

As you can imagine, people come to counseling for many different reasons, so the actual experience is always a little different.  But there is always an initial session where we discuss what brings you to counseling and gather some details about your background.  We always review the confidentiality of the professional relationship, as well as the few limitations. Then we start exploring how you'd like to change, what has gotten in your way so far, and we start to develop a plan of action.  We'll probably talk about your thoughts, feelings, and actions, both past and present, and what goals you might have for your future.

What does therapy cost?

Sessions are $150 per 50 minute session.  We know this is an investment in yourself and your relationships and are committed to not wasting your time or money.  We set goals at the start to give you an idea of how long it will take to see the change you want.  While we can't know for sure, it's our best professional opinion.  If you agree, we will pursue them.  You can always end treatment or agree to different goals.  Your choice.  We're just here to help.

Any hidden surprises?

Counseling has been proven to be very helpful, but this change can sometimes come with a hidden price.  As you change, you may outgrow some aspects of your life.  This could include your friendship circle or current behaviors.  Change can be hard on your relationships.  You may have to reevaluate your relationships with family or intimate partners since you won't be the same person you've always been.  And since you've changed, things often can't stay the same.  If you're ok with that, you might be ready for therapy.
